We have taken a break from posting new material to allow some time for the current material to make its way through the web. Currently Rav Chaimowitz is teaching a new shiur on The history of Chassidus and its effect on the Klal.

We hope to post audio and video shiurim, and will be offering a subscription service for catching the entire series.

Netzach – Dominance

This week’s middah of sfiras haomer is middas Netzach. "Netzach" translates as "Dominance". And so this week we receive a unique energy to "dominate" over the circumstances of our lives. But what does this mean to us regarding our avodas Hashem, and what should we be dominating upon?

Part of the Three Step Processing

The Sefer Ohr Chadash explains how "dominance" fits into the scheme of any project that a person chooses to undertake.  Every undertaking involves three steps that follow a progressive order:  thought, emotion and action.  For example,  if someone decides to build a house, he first must think about how he wants it to look, how many floors it will have, how many doors, etc. Once he has fully thought about what type of house he would like, he then moves on to the step of emotion and begins to develop feelings of desire for the house that he had pictured in his thoughts. Those feelings can actually become the main propellants to move him forward toward beginning the step of action and now that he is in the "mood" to begin, the first step of action is to technically dominate upon the situation and to remove any obstacles that might stand in his way. This would include for example, securing the rights to build on the land that he wants to build on, removing large boulders and rocks from the site that do not allow for digging a proper foundation, and paying workers who will provide the necessary manpower in order to complete such a job. This three-step process can really apply to any undertaking or goal in life that a person wants to achieve.  The  initial level in the step of action that requires removing obstacles, is termed the middah of Netzach.

The middah of Netzach or Dominance is defined then, as the ability to actively overcome all the obstacles that stand in the way of accomplishing one’s goal.

The Evil Tounge, and the Evil Heart

April 22nd, 2009

 Shalom,

I found something beautiful in my inbox today that MUST BE SHARED!

Thanks go out to Rabbi Eli Mansour of Daily Halacha (An amazing Sefardi based halacha website) who has been blessed to give over this amazing message that you will agree fits perfectly in our overall message. One must be balanced in life, and looking at lashon Ha’ra as a catalyst for inner change you immediately realize that YOU TOO NEED TO FIX YOUR HEART! We all do. The problem is only some of us are willing to admit it

Hopefully our usual series will return by the end of the week!

 Enjoy!

Today instead of our usual daily Torah post, we have a little special message for you instead!

10 Steps To Greatness By Rav Avigdor Miller z”l

Rabbi Avigdor Miller z'l

Do the following once a day. (if this is too much, maybe do one/day)
1. Spend 30 seconds thinking of Olam Haba
2. Say once "I love you Hashem"
3. Do one hidden act of chesed.
4. Be like Hashem who lifts the humble, say something to encourage someone.
5. Spend 1 minute about what happened yesterday (cheshbon hanefesh).
6. Your actions should be l’shem shamayim (say once during meals)
7. Look into someone’s face and think – I’m seeing a tzelem Elokim
8. Just like Hashem’s face shines on us, give someone a big smile.
9. When saying "malbish arumim", think about the great gift of garments.
10. When reciting the words, "If I forget you, Yerushalayim…," sit on floor and think of loss of Yerushalayim (privately, 1 second).
* * *
He recommended doing the above exercises for thirty days. "If you feel exhausted, take a break and come back slowly."
